Detroit Tigers pitcher Tyler Holton was a star in 2023.

The Detroit Tigers have plenty of things to look at during the off-season, but looking back at 2023, it's impressive the success that they were able to get from one of their relievers. Left-handed pitcher Tyler Holton was an absolutely dominant option for A.J. Hinch to give the ball to.

For the Detroit Tigers, consistency from their relievers will always be a key point to success. For Holton, 2023 was a great job by him, going out to shove for his team whenever he was called upon. The Tigers should be thrilled with how things went this summer.

The former Florida State Seminoles alum did a great job getting the job done for Detroit, working out of the bullpen and being an impressive addition from this season. Even though he was a last-minute addition, he proved to be a good one, providing a nice surprise for the Tigers.

Holton, now 27 years old, had just ten big league appearances before his big year with the Tigers in 2023. He came out and established himself as a more than reliable option out of the bullpen. He's someone the team needs to keep around moving forward, hoping to make him a key piece moving forward.

In 2023, Holton went out and pitched in 59 games for the Tigers, where he tallied 85.1 innings pitched. He managed a 2.11 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP, and had just 18 walks to 74 strikeouts; he allowed 56 hits and overall was able to limit the opposition in his trips to the mound.

The Tigers should be thrilled with how things went for Holton, as he really found ways to be dominant for Detroit. Overall, he improved his pitch mix and was able to sequence well, creating ways to be successful.

It really was a good year for the Tigers left-hander. While he's not going to get Rookie of the Year votes, he is technically eligible, and man, he was dominant enough. But a reliever over some of the top contenders for the award this year? It ain't going to happen and never was, but Holton deserves a serious pat on the back for his success this season.

The Tigers should be thrilled with how things went in 2023, they need to see continued success moving forward to make Holton a firm piece of the puzzle. Establishing the bullpen has seemingly been a priority for Detroit, and getting the performance they did this season out of Holton will be great for the team moving forward.
