Tigers News: Tarik Skubal ALDS Game 2, former pitcher linked to Marlins manager job
Both series on the National League side saw the Game 1 victor fall in Game 2. That's exactly what Detroit Tigers fans are looking to for when Tarik Skubal takes the mound in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians.
The Tigers took one on the chin during Saturday's shellacking at Progressive Field. The Tigers, coming off their high following an upset series win over the Houston Astros, lost 7-0 to the Guardians and enter Monday's matchup in what amounts to a must-win game with their ace on the hill.
Tigers News: Tarik Skubal gets the start for Game 2 of ALDS vs. Guardians
Tigers manager AJ Hinch doesn't have a better arm to turn to for Game 2 this evening in Cleveland. Skubal, the odds-on favorite to take home the AL Cy Young Award this season, will toe the rubber for Detroit as the Gritty Tigs look to even the series before heading back home for Game 3 on Wednesday.
Skubal was masterful during his first postseason start against the Astros last week. The Tigers' left-hander went six strong, struck out six batters, and allowed just four hits. Not a single Astros player dented the plate, and Skubal got his first-ever playoff win.
It'll be a hostile environment on the road in Game 2. The Guardians smell blood in the water after jumping all over the Tigers in Game 1. Skubal's lone start against Cleveland this season was an odd one. The southpaw went seven innings, but allowed 10 hits. Skubal amazingly saw just one run cross the dish while striking out six. The Tigers are hoping for similar results on Monday, but less base hits would be preferred.
Tigers News: Former pitcher Aníbal Sánchez interested in Miami Marlins manager job
The Tigers have a skipper who could be in the running for AL Manager of the Year. Hinch engineered a complete turnaround of a Detroit franchise that was left for dead during the month of August and transformed them into a playoff team.
And now, a former Tigers players may be looking to do the same in South Beach. Aníbal Sánchez has thrown his name into the ring to take over for Skip Schumaker as the next manager for the Miami Marlins.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is reporting that the six-year Tigers veteran is looking to land in the Marlins dugout next season. Jackson says that Marlins' President of Baseball Operations Peter Bendix is looking at individuals who have ties to the organization.
With the way Miami goes through players, that list could be longer than I-94. Sánchez did, however, spend seven years in Miami before being traded to Detroit in 2012. Tigers fans surely wish Sánchez well in his future endeavors.
