Tigers ace Tarik Skubal will look to defeat Pablo López and the Minnesota Twins on Friday night as soon as the action gets started. Luckily, after a damp and windy day, that vision appears to be becoming more of a reality.
Skubal should toe the rubber to stare down the visitors around 6:45 PM CT, about an hour and five minutes later than initially anticipated.
The Tigers (7-4) will then do their best to subdue the AL Central preseason favorite Twins (4-6) just as effectively as the rest of baseball has thus far this season.
Tigers Rain Delay: Series Opener vs Twins Set for 6:45 CT on Friday, April 12
Skubal lived up to the hype in his first two starts of 2024, maintaining a minuscule 0.73 WHIP to begin a season many hoped would represent his ascendance to the level of a Cy Young candidate.
The Twins' offense, expected to be the central's most potent, has instead experienced some early-season drudgery, which should play right into Skubal's hands in a wet and windy affair late Friday night.
The last time Skubal appeared, he experienced a pronounced velocity dip midway through his start. Notably, that game was also played under similarly frigid weather conditions; while fans would prefer to see an abrupt about-face, it might be fair to expect more of the same on Friday, even if that thought isn't particularly comforting.
A hot start in cool weather would be key for these Tigers, who've somehow been overshadowed by the fiery Kansas City Royals thus far in 2024. An easy victory on Friday night would go a long way towards Tigers fans to keep their (Bobby) Witts about them, and it all begins about an hour after we initially anticipated at Comerica.
Should probably wear an extra layer or two, though. Wouldn't want your pants exploding in this kind of environment.
