Tigers reporter has unfortunate wardrobe malfunction during rain delay
Johnny Kane needs a seamstress
The Detroit Tigers and New York Mets hoped there'd be a window to get the second game of their series in between the falling raindrops. Unfortunately for Bally Sports Detroit reporter Johnny Kane and his pants, it didn't quite turn out that way.
Weather was an issue everywhere on Tuesday, with snow in the Upper Midwest turning over to rain as it moved east. When the Mets initially announced the game would begin in a delay, players and media members alike knew they'd have to find a way to bide their time until something was announced either way.
For Kane and Bally Sports Detroit analyist and former Tigers player Craig Monroe, that meant some time to get into some shenanigans, like an impromptu hitting lesson in the booth.
Monroe was helping Kane rotate his hips in the booth when -- riiiiiip.
"DId I rip your pants?" Monroe asked before cracking up laughing.
New Tigers TV play-by-play man Jason Benetti couldn't help but get into the fun himself after that.
That was definitely not what anyone expected to see Wednesday.
Not too long after, the Mets postponed the game. The teams will hope for better weather on Thursday and set the make-up contest for 1:10 p.m. ET. The game was the only one to be postponed.
Tigers and Mets may end up postponed again Wednesday
This is the first Tigers game to be postponed this year, and there's no guarantee a second won't be postponed Wednesday night as well. Rain is expected to continue in the New York area and there's a 90 percent coverage of rain expected at 7 p.m. That should be accompanied by strong wind gusts, making the weather miserable. It does appear that it will clear out some by Thursday afternoon, so the teams should at least get a second game of the series in.
The Tigers have opened the season 4-0 and currently hold an early one-game lead in the AL Central over the 4-2 Guardians.
As for the weather Friday in Detroit? About what you'd expect if you're used to weather in Michigan: cloudy and a high in the mid-40s. But at least there's no rain expected.
