Well, we didn't see this one coming, though perhaps we should have. MLB Network's Jon Morosi reports that there has been siginficant trade interest in Detroit Tigers' OF/DH Kerry Carpenter. However, he also says the team plans to keep him for the long haul.

Carpenter is slashing .264/.323/.506 with 11 homers and a 128 wRC+ in 195 plate appearances this season. He's been outstanding since he was called up last August.

The fact that teams are interested in Carpenter isn't too surprising. He's a young, controllable bat, and teams are expecting the Tigers to sell. But Carpenter is one of the few players on this teams that should be deemed truly untouchable, and clearly the Tigers feel the same way.

The last part of the tweet is very interesting. Morosi says the Tigers think they can compete sooner rather than later, which is a promising sign if that is indeed true. This team has some pieces when healthy. There's a reason there's been some talk of potentially extending Eduardo Rodriguez, rather than trading him.

This is the second day in a row there's been a rumor surrounding the Detroit Tigers. There will surely be more as we get closer to the Aug. 1 trade deadline. Buckle up, folks.
