UPDATE: Per the Mets, Wednesday's game has been officially postponed. Both Tuesday's and Wednesday's games will now be played on Thursday as a double-header, beginning at 12:10 p.m. ET.

The Detroit Tigers and New York Mets had their game Tuesday postponed due to rain. Are we going to have another day without baseball today?

The weather in New York City does not look promising for a game. That said, there may still be an opportunity a little later in the evening to avoid having two consecutive days wiped out due to the bad weather to the east.

Here's a quick look at what to expect today.

New York forecast for Tigers-Mets on Wednesday, April 3

According to the AccuWeather forecast for Queens, City Field is expected to be impacted by very high winds and rain throughout the day. Occasionally that rain may be heavy. Two to three inches of rain may fall through Thursday morning, with rates of half to three-quarters of an inch possible this evening.

That's led to the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch in effect from 4 p.m. today until late tonight.

In addition to that, there's a high wind warning for the entire NYC region from 11 a.m. today through 6 a.m. Thursday. Winds are expected to be from 28-35 mph with gusts expected up to 60 mph.

All of that does not add up to giving much confidence in a game being played. That said, if you squint there is a little hope.

The worst of it seems to be forecasted to pass by closer to 10 p.m. That's not to say the rain will clear up -- but coverage drops to 80% from near 100%, so you never know how that might play out.

Right now, the teams plan to make up their first postponement at 1:10 p.m. on Thursday. It seems like they should get at least that game in. There are a few possible makeup days that might work for the teams later in the season if they lose tonight's game don't choose to stack both makeups Thursday.

Two postponements in a row wouldn't really be anything new for the Tigers. It happened last April as well

If the teams do play tonight, Tigers starter Casey Mize is set to make his first appearance in a regular season game since April 14, 2022. He underwent Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2023.
