The hits just keep on coming for the Detroit Tigers, and on Friday night, one of those struck relief pitcher Ty Madden in his right forearm. Toronto Blue Jays' left fielder Yohendrick Piñango smoked a 108 mph come backer right up the box that ricocheted off Madden's arm. The Tigers' right-hander was removed from the game, but for the moment, it appears Detroit dodged a bullet.

According to Tigers' manager A.J. Hinch, initial testing didn't reveal any fractures. Madden will reportedly received further testing on Saturday to determine the severity of the injury, but seeing as how he was on the field for the team's postgame celebration following Friday's walk-off win, it can be assumed that the injury is minor in nature.

Tigers fans hoping for good news following Ty Madden's early exit

The last thing Tigers' fans want to hear about is another injury, espeically to a member of the team's pitching staff. Detroit is already without Cy Young Award-winning starter Tarik Skubal, but he's not the only hurler on the injured list. Beau Briske, Bailey Horn, Jackson Jobe, Troy Melton, Reese Olson, Will Vest, and Justin Verlander are all nursing various injuries, with several of those listed on the 60-day IL.

In addition to the pitchers, Detroit is also without Javier Baez, Trey Sweeney, Gleyber Torres, Kerry Carpenter, and Parker Meadows. In case you've lost count, that's 14 Tigers' players who are currently on the IL.

Sadly, the team's record is a reflection of their current situation. Despite Detroit's win over the defending American League champions on Friday night, the Tigers still sit five games below .500 and 3½ back of the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians. Detroit is 2-8 in their last 10 games and a horrifying 7-19 away from Comerica Park this season.

Madden was supposed to be Detroit's long reliever in a contest that was the very definition of a bullpen game on Friday night. Thankfully, Drew Anderson and Burch Smith combined to allow just two runs over six innings to help bridge the gap to closer Kenley Jansen who shut down the Jays' bats in the ninth inning.

Tigers fans will be on standby, waiting with bated breath for the latest injury update. Detroit can ill-afford to lose another pitcher to the IL, especially one as versatile as Madden.
