Tigers fans will throw up hearing Tarik Skubal’s response to Dodgers trade

A few days have gone by since the Tigers decided to trade Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a couple of top-100 prospects as well as another pitching prospect.

The return has been hotly-debated, but people are perhaps starting to come around to the fact that Detroit wasn’t “fleeced” like many had originally claimed. The Tigers were able to land a top-25 prospect in all of baseball as well as a top-70 pitcher to go along with a third-round draft pick from 2023.

They also dealt Casey Mize for the Padres’ No. 2 prospect, but the headliner of the weekend was definitely the best pitcher in baseball landing with the most loaded team in baseball.

Los Angeles has won back-to-back World Series titles to basically become the New York Yankees on steroids. The Dodgers are loaded from top to bottom and they’re just throwing money at everyone, building what can be considered the closest thing to a super team in baseball that we’ve ever seen.

Almost every baseball fan has expressed a disgust in the trade. That includes Tigers fans, some of whom were also happy to get something in return for a guy who was apparently not going to re-sign in the offseason.

But perhaps that feeling of satisfaction has disappeared. Skubal’s comments about the heavily-criticized trade are enough to make any Detroit fan sick to their stomach. He’s heard all the people blaming the Dodgers for ruining baseball, but he doesn’t feel bad whatsoever.

The phrase “the Dodgers do all the right things” made me slightly sick to my stomach. I get that winning can be considered “all the right things”, but it’s hard to say that phrase is accurate given the fact that they just pay boatloads of money for their roster every year.

Los Angeles has the second-highest payroll in the MLB behind only the New York Mets (somehow). The Dodgers haven’t been lower than No. 3 in league payroll since 2023.

Detroit, on the other hand, has been in the bottom half of the league in payroll for most of the past decade, and its 11th ranking this season is the highest it’s been since 2017.

We get it, it’s a business. The Dodgers are in the business of winning games and they’re going to pay the most money in order to do just that. There’s a reason that they’ve won back-to-back World Series titles and it’s because their front office isn’t cheap (taking notes, Chris Ilitch?).

Scott Harris made the deal he thought would yield the best prospects and that just so happened to be with the best team in baseball, probably because they have the top farm system in the sport.

Next offseason, Tigers fans are hoping Ilitch finally makes a trade or signing that will complement the young roster nicely and make Detroit a serious World Series contender. We'll take a veteran bat and some bullpen arms and be all-in on a World Series push in 2027.

We'rejust going to choose to move on from the trade drama because Skubal was never going to remain a Tiger anyway.
