UPDATE: The game resumed around 9:15 PM CT. It swiftly got worse.
With a runner on second and no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning between the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers, the rains came.
Those rains were merciful for most Tigers fans. After all, though this team does nothing but come back in increasingly gritty fashion this season ... 5-0 and a runner in scoring position against the red-hot Cardinals was a less than ideal situation to be in.
Hopes were high for this 1968 World Series rematch, though more people are talking about 1984 these days anyway. Unfortunately, the weather intervened too late to redeem Monday's early slop.
Potential severe storms have long been expected Monday night into Tuesday in St. Louis, but they held off until about two innings past when they would've been really helpful for the Tigers. Instead, this will be an official game if it does get banged, with the tarp arriving just about at 8:43 PM local time.
Tigers’ offense looks absolutely dreadful tonight. Bad at-bat after bad at-bat, up and down the lineup. Just nothing clicking right now. Rain delay might be the best thing for them at this point. #RepDetroit

Tigers vs. Cardinals Rain Delay, 5/19: When is the game supposed to start?
Looking for a restart time? You ... may not be in luck. You'll also probably be alone.
The severe storms appear likely to continue overnight, now that they've started, with the hourly forecast for the city of St. Louis indicating that there won't be clear skies until around 7:00 AM CT.
If you're in attendance at Busch Stadium, it may be high time to pack it up and grab some Ted Drewes frozen custard before they close. Or perhaps some toasted ravioli, even though the temperature's still in the balmy upper 70s.
If tomorrow is the next time we see Detroit Tigers baseball, it'll be Tarik Skubal on the bump, opposed by (potential Tigers trade deadline target?) Erick Fedde. Detroit's rotation lost a stalwart on Monday when Reese Olson hit the injured list with a bothersome finger problem. Casey Mize is on track to rejoin the rotation this weekend and replace him, at least, though Detroit's corps still won't quite be whole. Pitching chaos (and weather chaos) still reigns, it seems.
