It was a good thing that the weather held off on Wednesday, as the Detroit Tigers played a really good game against a game Royals squad. While offense was hard to come by for both teams, the Tigers were able to squeak out a 2-1 win thanks to a strong start from Jack Flaherty, a timely home run from Wenceel Perez, and a slide from Javy Baez that seems impossible even after repeat viewing. There isn't a better way to celebrate Kevin McGonigle's extension than with a win. Unfortunately, rain in the area continues to be a bit of an issue.

It is never great when a weekday day game has to deal with rough weather. Spring storms can pop up out of nowhere, but bad weather can completely ruin the best laid pitching plans for both teams and make rescheduling any games a lot tougher without any game days left in the series to turn into a doubleheader. Combine that with the travel headaches and you have a bit of a mess.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature does not care about these considerations and after a morning filled with crummy weather, the rain did not clear out in time for the game to start and we are now officially in a delay.

**UPDATE: 1:27 PM EST**

Welp, we did not have to wait long whatsoever to get an estimated start time. Unless there is a dramatic change in the forecast, this match-up between the Tigers and Royals will start at 2:15 PM EST/1:15 PM CST.

Tigers vs. Royals Rain Delay, 4/16/26: So when will this game get started?

There is some good news here in that, unless the field gets completely trashed, there does appear to be a window to get this game in today. Both teams are probably not looking to have to reschedule a game if they can help it, even if it means sitting around for a bit. Looking at the forecast, the chance of rain peaks around the official game start time, but dies off pretty quickly. Assuming that holds, a delay in the range of an hour or so feels likely. The Detroit grounds crew might have their hands full, though, as there has been a good bit of rain all day.

We will keep this post updated as more information is made available including when an estimated game start time is announced. It is unfortunate that weather is causing havoc with what has been a fun division match-up, but we shouldn't have to wait too long for things to get underway.
