When We Last Met
The Detroit Tigers beat the Los Angeles Angels last night with a strong start from Max Scherzer, and solid performances by both Joba Chamberlain and Joe Nathan, the latter of whom struck out the side in the ninth to close out the one run game. The Tigers look to clinch the series against the Angels tonight, and in doing so would also clinch the season series.
Starting Pitchers
Drew Smyly(6-8, 3.80 ERA) pitched the lights out in his last start against Cleveland, earning the W, the only win the Tigers were able to salvage of that four game series. Smyly pitched seven innings and gave up only one run on four hits and two walks while striking out six. While his two starts before the start against Cleveland were rough, he looked to have good command and was able to locate his pitch.
Smyly is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 16 innings pitched against the Angels in career.
Tyler Skaggs(5-5, 4.65 ERA) had a rough outing in his last start, giving up five runs on eight hits and a walk against Seattle. He has never pitched against the Detroit Tigers in his career.
