Rapid Reactions: Tigers Roll Over Twins

Tigers 10, Twins 2 (box)

  • The Twins are in a very bad place right now. They’re last in the AL in hitting (wOBA), and they’re pretty close to last in pitching (second worst ERA, tied for worst FIP). They’ve been decimated by injuries, but even some of the healthy guys (that they were supposed to count on) are struggling. The W-L record says they’re the poorest team in all of baseball, and they’re playing like it.
  • Rick Porcello wasn’t particularly sharp tonight, but the Twins didn’t get to him. A solo home run was the only blemish on his final line. He weathered an hour rain delay and returned to pitch two innings to grab the win. He’s having a very nice year so far.
  • I have to tip my hat whenever Brad Thomas has a good outing. He allowed one run to score in his two innings of work, but he didn’t blow the six run lead he was spotted. That’s an improvement.
  • Don’t look now, but Austin Jackson is swinging the stick. His two hits tonight brought his season OPS up to .633.
  • I could get used to all of these runs. Since the start of last week’s Yankees series (the last nine games), the Tigers have outscored the opposition 55-26.
  • The Royals lost to the Yankees tonight, so the Tigers are now back in second place (5.5 GB of Cleveland). They’re also 2 games back of the AL wild card leading Tampa Bay Rays (really early for wild card talk, I know).
