In Tampa Bay, Price lost a complete-game one-hitter in which the only hit he yielded was a triple. As researched on Baseball-Reference.com, only one other pitcher in the last 100 years had lost a complete game in which the only hit he gave up was a triple. That pitcher was Feller, the Indians’ hard-throwing Hall of Famer. He suffered that one-hit loss to the St. Louis Browns in 1952. Like Price, he yielded the triple in the bottom of the first inning – and Feller gave up his to the leadoff hitter. In his start between the one-hitter and Monday, Price got routed. He gave up eight runs in his loss to the Yankees. With those last two starts, Price virtually duplicated Feller’s work in his only World Series. In Game 1 in 1948 against the Boston Braves, Feller threw a brilliant low-hit game. But he lost that two-hitter, 1-0. In his only other start in that series, in Game 5, Feller gave up seven runs and lost again.
