Game Preview

Well, fans got the low-scoring ballgame on Friday that we all expected to have in the series between the Detroit Tigers and the Los Angeles Angels, but it was again the wrong result for Detroit as the Tigers lost, 2-0.

Detroit has scored fewer than three runs in four games this week. The team has tallied just six runs in the last five games.

Los Angeles has struggled to score this year as well, coming into the series ranked 26th in runs. The Angels have been either two games above or below the .500 mark the entire month of May. With another victory on Saturday, Los Angeles would be back to two games above .500.

Meanwhile, Detroit wants to get back to their own winnings ways and break its losing trend at Angel Stadium. The Tigers are just 19-21 since their 9-1 start to the year and have lost 10 of their last 11 at Angel Stadium.

When We Last Met

Detroit has lost the first two games of this series, which are the first two matchups between these two clubs in 2015. Los Angeles won, 12-2, on Thursday and then, 2-0, on Friday.

Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez pitched a nice game on Friday, allowing just two runs on six hits, but the Detroit offense stalled once again.

Pitching Matchup

Right-hander Shane Greene will be on the mound for Detroit on Saturday. He is 4-3 with a 4.27 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 59 innings this season. After a very bad slump, Greene allowed just three runs in three starts combined from May 10 to May 20, but he did yield four runs in 5 2/3 innings in his last outing.

Those four runs all came in the sixth inning against Greene in his start versus the Athletics on Memorial Day.

For Los Angeles, right-hander Jered Weaver will get the ball. He is 3-4 with a 4.06 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 35 strikeouts in 64 1/3 innings this season. He has been better as of late, though, allowing just five runs in his last 30 innings.
