When We Last Met
The Detroit Tigers’ season hit a new low in a 14-3 blowout Saturday night in the Bronx. The Tigers will be looking to avoid the sweep and their fifth straight loss on Father’s Day.
Pitching Matchup
Anibal Sanchez (5-7, 4.65) is coming off terrific stretch of 20 1/3 scoreless innings which continued with a complete game shutout over the Reds on Monday night. It was a nice couple of games for him particularly because he has been struggling this year, especially with an issue he hasn’t really experienced much while a Detroit Tiger, allowing home runs–14 this year after only four all of 2014. This will be a concern in the bandbox that is Yankee Stadium. He did pitch well in April against New York, allowing one run in seven innings, but was out dueled by Sunday’s starter for the Yankees.
That starter, Masahiro Tanaka (4-2, 2.49) has bounced back nicely after Tommy John surgery last season. He was saddled with the hard-luck loss in his last outing, a 2-1 loss to the Miami Marlins, but did his part allowing just two runs in seven innings. He held the Tigers to one run in 6.1 in a no-decision on April 23 in his first career start against them.
