When We Last Met

The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox will meet once again in prime time on Sunday Night Baseball to decide the rubber match of the weekend series.

Boston snapped its eight-game losing streak with a, 2-1, extra-inning victory over Detroit on Friday, but the Tigers answered with a, 4-1, victory Saturday afternoon.

Even in the loss on Friday, the Tigers have received great pitching from the staff this weekend. Right-handers Justin Verlander and Alfredo Simon have combined for 14 innings and just two runs allowed. Detroit hopes Shane Greene can keep that going on Sunday night.

Pitching Matchup

The smart money, however, would say that Greene will not be able to repeat the performances from Verlander and Simon. Greene allowed just one earned run in his first three starts this season, but since April 24, Greene is 1-7 with a 9.11 ERA. In his last five outings, Greene has been even worse with a 13.75 ERA and .405 batting average against.

The Detroit Tigers are 0-5 in those five starts.

Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will start for the Red Sox. Just like Greene, the 22-year-old had a great start to the season, posting a 0.44 ERA in his first 20 2/3 frames over three starts, but since then, Rodriguez has a 7.22 ERA.

His last outing against the Los Angeles Angels was his shortest. Rodriguez yielded seven runs on six hits, including two home runs in 1 2/3 innings on Monday.

It could be a long night.
