When We Last Met
It’s been a long time since the Detroit Tigers faced the Minnesota Twins, and actually, some could point to the two teams’ last meeting as a turning point for the Tigers season.
Detroit took the first game of that series, but on July 10, the Tigers blew six-run lead to lose, 8-6, in the bottom of the ninth. The Twins also took the next two games, and the Tigers limped into the All-Star break with an even 44-44 record.
Pitching Matchup
26-year-old left-hander Kyle Lobstein will take the ball for the third time since he returned from his shoulder injury in early September. Unfortunately, Lobstein hasn’t been much of a lift for the Tigers since he returned. In his last two starts, the lefty has allowed 11 combined runs in 10 innings. He took the lost in both starts.
For the season, Lobstein is 3-7 with a 5.31 ERA in 57 2/3 innings.
The Twins will actually start an even younger pitcher than Lobstein in Tyler Duffey on Monday. The 24-year-old is 2-1 with a 4.18 ERA in 32 1/3 innings. Monday will be Duffey’s seventh start of his career.
