Fans are running wild with a viral moment with Comerica vendor at Tigers-Blue Jays game

Seriously, how'd he think this would work?

The Tigers went out with a whimper on Sunday afternoon and lost their Rivalry Weekend series against the Blue Jays despite an energizing walk-off win in the opener. Jack Flaherty was on the mound for Detroit — not something that instills a lot of confidence in Tigers fans these days — and almost immediately gave up a solo homer to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

He ended up lasting six innings, a rarity for him these days, with four runs allowed, but the Tigers' dormant offense stayed almost fast asleep. They scored just one run on a Jahmai Jones groundout.

They're still in the AL Central's basement along with the Royals, having a -13 run differential, and have lost eight of their last 10. Every time someone comes off the IL, someone else goes onto it. These are tough times in Detroit.

Tigers fans are looking for any reason to smile right now. On Sunday, a visiting Blue Jays fan at Comerica Park provided a viral moment of levity.

A fan wearing a Matt Chapman jersey was spotted trying to buy a beer from one of Comerica's roving vendors ... using a McLovin ID. There are layers to this stunt that you just can't make up.

It's probably impossible to track this kind of thing, but for our money, that might be the most viral tweet set at Comerica ... ever? And Tigers fans are running with it.

Scott Bentley of the Locked on Tigers podcast said what every Tigers fan was thinking as Detroit is mired in one of the most anemic slumps we've seen in recent years.

Even more fans are already using the vendor's reaction as a meme (shoutout to you, Aevar). According to the original poster, the attempt didn't work despite the fan's best efforts.

Bentley had it right: this team is driving fans to the absolute brink right now. They could hardly get a hit off of Kevin Gausman and the Blue Jays' bullpen on Sunday, much less hope to score runs off of them. The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, and all they could manage was an RBI groundout.

At least we have a fun takeaway from the series (along with that win in the opener, which blessedly saved the Tigers from their fifth sweep of the season).
