When the somewhat misleading reports of the cavernous gap between the Detroit Tigers and Tarik Skubal became public and started sparking trade rumors, it was a foregone conclusion that fans of other teams would begin salivating, dreaming about their club putting together an offer for the best lefty in baseball.

Scroll through social media for more than a minute, and you'll be inundated with nonsensical trade proposals and fans screaming into the void, pleading to their club's ownership to make a deal for whatever superstar is rumored to be on the block at the time.

However, rarely do fans directly contact their club's owner, and even rarer still is them getting a response. However, in this one delusional scenario, that's exactly what happened for a Colorado Rockies fan (those exist?) who dared to dream.

Rockies fan hysterically pleads with owner Dick Monfort to pull off a blockbuster with the Tigers for Tarik Skubal

Kevin is dreaming. Scrolling through his social media feed, he saw the same reports regarding how sizable the gap was between Skubal and the Tigers during extension talks from last year. However, rather than simply dream or post his thoughts on Twitter, Kevin decided to take action. He emailed Rockies owner Dick Monfort to plead his case. He even got a response!

Kevin compares Skubal to 2018 Kyle Freeland, which, while that was a career year for the Rockies hurler, is pretty ridiculous. He acknowledges the cost, both in terms of prospects and dollars, to trade for and then extend the 2024 AL Cy Young Winner, but he has a reason why it's worth it.

"We could take him so much further than the Tigers ever have," Kevin hysterically muses. Keep in mind, Colorado went 43-119 in 2025. The Rockies set the modern era record for worst run differential in history at minus-424. They are no Cleveland Spiders, who were outscored by 723 runs in 1899, but they're in a pretty bleak spot.

Colorado, a place pitchers go to die, posted the worst ERA in baseball last season at 5.99, and it wasn't particularly close. Even if they did pull off a deal for Skubal, they'd still likely have the worst pitching staff in the majors again in 2026.

Monfort responded to Kevin, and he didn't take the idea off the table, simply saying, "We'll see what happens." Before you dart off to start scouting Colorado's farm system, just know that it ranks among the worst in baseball, coming in at 24th in MLB.com's midseason update. The big league roster is wholly devoid of talent, in case the putrid record and worst-ever run differential didn't give that away.

So no, even if Monfort is open to the possibility, Skubal to the Rockies isn't happening. The Tigers do, however, have quite a conundrum on their hands, but sending the presumptive 2025 AL Cy Young winner to Colorado does nothing good for anyone involved. Sorry, Kevin!
