Detroit Tigers: The 3 best retirement gifts Miguel Cabrera has received from opposing teams
Miguel Cabrera has received a retirement gift from every team, and some of them have actually been pretty cool.
Miguel Cabrera has received many gits from opposing teams as part of his farewell tour this season. While most people will only remember the bad ones — such as what the A's gave him Thursday night — there are actually many more good and creative gifts than bad and/or cheap ones.
Originally, this was going to be a three worst retirements gifts Miggy has gotten, but through our research, we found that many teams actually stepped up their game. There have been some really neat gifts that Miggy has gotten throughout the course of the season.
So, instead of being a list of the worst gifts he's received, this is going to be the three best gifts he's received from other teams. There are some real doozies in here. Let's get started.
The 3 best retirement gifts Miguel Cabrera has receieved from opposing teams
1. Cleveland Guardians — Guitar
How about the AL Central rivals showing out? The Guardians gave Miggy a custom guitar, sticking with the city's tradition since the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is there.
The guitar had a picture of him, as well as the number 24. Jose Ramirez and former Cleveland All-Star Manny Ramirez presented the gift to him in a cool pregame ceremony on Aug. 20.
To put the icing on the cake, Miggy's reaction — knowing what happened with Jose Ramirez and Tim Anderson earlier that month — was priceless, although J-Ram didn't seem very amused.
This makes because not only was it creative and something that matches the spirit of Cleveland, but it's something Miggy can actually get something out of. If he ever wanted to play guitar, now he can.
2. New York Yankees — Subway sign and painting of Miguel Cabrera's home run off Mariano Rivera in 2013
There were a few teams that gave Miggy something that recreated a memory that happened in their home stadium, such as the Blue Jays giving him a framed photo of his 500th home run. But what the Yankees gave him was extra special.
The Yanks gave him a painting of his home run off Mariano Rivera back in 2013, which we recently ranked as the best home run of his Tigers career. Not only that, but they also gave him an autographed Yankee Stadium subway sign.
The Yankees also made a $10,000 donation to the Miggy foundation, which was a very nice gesture. The Bronx bombers stepped up their game in a big way.
The painting was incredibly well done, and the subway sign was very creative and very New York-centric. It's easily one of the best gifts Miggy has gotten on his retirement tour.
3. Arizona Diamondbacks — Vacation
A guitar, a painting of a memorable home run, and a subway sign are cool and all, but an all-expense paid vacation? Now THAT is a retirement gift.
The D'backs were kind enough to give Miggy a vacation at Talking Stick Resort and Casino in Scottsdale, Arizona as their gift to him when they visted Comerica Park back in June. Just like the Yankees, they also made a $10,000 donation to his foundation.
This seems like a really neat place. It looks quite luxurious as well. The perfect retirement gift, if we say so ourselves.
The D'backs weren't the only team to give Miggy a vacation. The Rockies gave him a two-night stay at The Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs as part of their gift. Miggy is going to have plenty of time to relax and unwind following his retirement, and now he can travel to do so.
So while much of the attention has gone on the bad gifts, like the A's the other night, there have been quite a few well-thought out gifts as well. Cabrera will have plenty of things to enjoy after he rides off into the sunset.
