Detroit Tigers: Wyatt Langford is a great option at no.3
If the Detroit Tigers take Wyatt Langford at third overall, it's a win.
Detroit Tigers picking Wyatt Langford third overall would be a victory.
The Detroit Tigers are in a great spot. Obviously, being first or second overall would be better, but with this top-heavy draft class, the team is in a good spot. The Tigers need to make the most of their opportunity here and grab themselves a college bat.
I know there are some really intriguing names, and depending on how things play out, Dylan Crews could be on the board. But even if Crews is there, I think that Wyatt Langford truly deserves some serious consideration from the Detroit Tigers as they do their final preparations for Sunday's 2023 MLB Draft.
That would mean the first two names off the board, likely are Max Clark and Paul Skenes. But if it were Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes, I'd still want the Tigers to take Langford. If Skenes falls to third overall, with a Clark/Crews combination for 1:1 & 1:2, give me Langford.
The point being "the guy" for the Tigers should be Wyatt Langford. If Dylan Crews is on the board, the Tigers are likely taking him and avoiding leaving the top college prospect on the board, but Langford might just pique the interest of some.
Take a look at his MCB Draft Profile for an in-depth look at Langford. However, when it comes to the summed-up way of putting it...
Langford has a really premium operation in the batters' box that I think will translate well with a wood bat as he gets into a pro organization. He had an unbelievable season with the Gators en route to a College World Series berth but fell short to LSU.
He finished the 2023 season with 64 games played, managing 303 plate appearances. He slashed .373/.498/.784 with 28 doubles, three triples, and 21 home runs with 57 RBI to his credit for the Gators' offense.
He has a frame that projects well and should continue to be enticing at the big league level, to be that of a physical box presence from the right side with power potential. The juice is there, and Langford projects to hit for power, in my opinion.
The Tigers would be able to pick up a middle-of-the-order bat with corner outfield projection. The Tigers should prioritize Langford for the top of their draft board for Sunday's third overall pick. It will depend on how things shake out with the first two picks, but the Tigers should be all-in on Langford.
No matter what happens, the Tigers are in a spot where they should come away with a top-tier prospect for the organization.
