Tarik Skubal's exit in Game 5 of the ALDS still haunts (and is going to haunt) Tigers fans for a while. His 99 pitches through six innings wasn't a postseason high — he got through 7 2/3 on 107 in Game 1 of the Wild Card — but AJ Hinch thought his starter had completely emptied the tank, so he trusted his bullpen to keep the Mariners to a run and his offense to tack on a few more.
But then it all came crashing down in the blink of an eye. Kyle Finnegan gave up the tying run the inning after Skubal was pulled.
And we all know how the rest went. The score stayed tied at two apiece through eight more excrutiating innings, and the Tigers went home on a walk-off single for Jorge Polanco.
Fans were immediately displeased about Skubal's exit, which seemed to be a mutual decision, but Hinch bore the brunt of the blowback ... all of which is now turning back onto Skubal after an appearance on Foul Territory.
"Later into that game, in the 11th inning, I'd come down for the adrenaline, and I'm in the dugout and I'm like, 'I wonder if they'd let me re-enter this game, if there are some rule changes to use,'" he said. "It was worse just watching it than playing in it just because you have no say or any control over what's going on out there."

Tigers fans still upset about Tarik Skubal's ALDS Game 5 exit are even madder after recent comments
The replies on that clip are filled with very angry fans, some of whom go as far as to say that it was all they needed to hear to get on board with the idea of a trade.
That's simply ridiculous. That Game 5 loss was the result of failures across the board. The offense was asleep; the bullpen gave up the tying and winning runs. One player doesn't make a team.
But we'll allow that it's not an amazing look for Skubal to sort of-kind of allude to indeed having more gas in the tank when he was taken out. Even if he didn't, isn't a postseason elimination game the time to push past your limits?
No one could've foreseen how that game shook out, but Tigers fans can say with confidence that Detroit would've had a better chance of winning if Skubal had stayed in, even if he was on his last legs.
