Tigers announce start time changes for Yankees series due to extreme weather

Due to frigid temperatures forecasted in the Motor City, the Detroit Tigers have had to make some scheduling changes for their series against the New York Yankees at Comerica Park this week.

According to an announcement from the team, the start time for all three games against the New York Yankees this week – all of which were originally scheduled for 6:40 p.m. EST – have been changed to the afternoon due to "forecasted evening wind chills" and "other weather considerations."

Monday's matchup has been changed to 3:10 p.m. EST, while the games on both Tuesday and Wednesday have been changed to 1:10 p.m. EST.

Even with the earlier start times, fans planning to attend this week's games at Comerica Park should be mindful of the weather conditions and plan accordingly. According to the National Weather Service, there is a chance of rain showers in Detroit before 2 p.m. on Monday, followed by a chance of rain and snow showers and increasing clouds. The high is expected to be near 42 degrees, with winds gusting as high as 22 mph.

There is also a chance of snow showers before 8 p.m. in the evening. Skies are forecasted to be mostly cloudy, with a low around 26 degrees.

Tuesday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 41. Wind gusts could get as high as 21 mph. The evening is expected to be partly cloudy, with a low around 27. There is a chance of rain after 2 p.m. on Wednesday with partly sunny skies and a high near 45. Rain is likely in the evening, primarily after midnight, with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 36.

Those planning to bundle up and brave the cold temperatures at Comerica Park can expect to see Casey Mize take the hill for the Tigers on Monday against Carlos Rodon. Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal will make his third start of the season Tuesday against Carlos Carrasco, and Jack Flaherty will start Wednesday's series finale opposite Max Fried.
